Peppers, Taylor, Manumaleuna All Agree to Contracts With Bears

March 5 (Bloomberg) -- the Chicago Bears signed two-timeAll-Pro defensive end Julius Peppers, running back ChesterTaylor and tight end Brandon Manumaleuna to multi-yearcontracts, the team said today.

Financial terms of the contracts were not released by theteam.

Peppers signed a six-year contract with $40 millionguaranteed in the first three years, ESPN said, citing a personfamiliar with the negotiations. Taylor agreed to a four-yeardeal worth $12.5 million with $7 million guaranteed in thefirst year, the sports network said. Manumaleuna’s contract isfor five years, the team said.

“The tradition that this franchise has is something thatI was intrigued by,” Peppers said in a news conference withthe other two players at the Bears’ team headquarters in LakeForest, Illinois. “Hopefully, I can be one of the missingpieces to help this defense return to dominance.”

Peppers played his first eight National Football Leagueseasons with the Carolina Panthers, recording 81 sacks. he wasnamed a first-team All-Pro after the 2004 and 2006 seasons.

The Panthers in February decided not to place a franchisetag on Peppers, making the 30-year-old who earned $18.2 millionlast season an unrestricted free agent. if the team had usedthe franchise tag designation on him, it would have had toguarantee a base salary of $20.1 million for 2010.

Taylor, 30, rushed for 338 yards on 94 carries for theMinnesota Vikings last season.

Manumaleuna, 30, has 110 receptions for 965 yards and 12touchdowns in nine NFL seasons with the St. Louis Rams (2001-05) and San Diego Chargers (2006-09).
