The Villans head to Fratton Park on Sunday desperate for the win after they leaked points at home to Everton on a 2-2 draw in midweek Premier League action on Wednesday. The result was a bit of a disappointment because had they won they would have overhauled Liverpool in the table. As it happens, Aston Villa remain firmly in seventh place, still vying for a Europa League spot next season.

Portsmouth FC are relegation bound. Their fate was sealed a long time ago some would have but now it is official. With only three matches left, and more points to safety than are up for grabs, Portsmouth having nothing left to play for but pride. They are after a scoreless draw against Wigan Athletic in midweek action, a feat that demonstrates an admirable reluctance to be taken for granted even when they have been for all intended purposes demoted.
